The San Jose Sharks are interviewing multiple candidates for their open head coaching position, and Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman wonders if Jeremy Colliton was interviewed.
Colliton is the head coach for the Vancouver Canucks AHL affiliate, the Abbotsford Canucks. Colliton was the head coach for the Chicago Blackhawks from 2018 to 2021.
"I have wondered if Colliton has been interviewed in San Jose, too," Friedman said on 32 Thoughts. "A couple of people have mentioned that maybe Colliton has a couple of NHL opportunities he's exploring."
Colliton's situation with the Canucks has been strange since their Calder Cup Playoffs run ended. Rick Dhaliwal reported that Colliton was out as the head coach of the AHL club.
Shortly after Dhaliwal's report, Dan Murphy reported that the Canucks offered Colliton a two-year contract.
Colliton has the professional experience that GM Mike Grier told reporters he was looking for in a potential head coach. Abbotsford was the youngest team in the AHL, with an average age of 23.75. Abbotsford has made the AHL playoffs each of the two years Colliton was the head coach.
The Sharks need to develop their young core of players, and Colliton has shown he can get a young team to win, even if it's in the AHL. Development into a competitive team is the next step for the Sharks rebuild.
The Sharks have reportedly interviewed Jeff Blashill and Ryan Warsofsky but continue to do their due diligence.
