San Jose Barracuda's Andrew Poturalski has won the 2024-25 AHL MVP award (Les Cunningham Award).
Poturalski has been on a tear this season, scoring 30 goals and 43 assists for 73 points in 59 games. That also landed him the AHL's leading scorer award (John B. Sollenberger Trophy).
Poturalski, 31, has had a very good AHL career. He has spent 10 years in the American Hockey League and played for five different teams. He started his career with the Charlotte Checkers in 2015-16, then played for the San Diego Gulls, Chicago Wolves, Coachella Valley Firebirds, and now is with the Barracuda.
Unfortunately, during those 10 years, he has only played nine NHL games and recorded three assists. He suited up for the Carolina Hurricanes in 2016-17, then again in 2021-22, the Seattle Kraken in 2023-24, and played three games for the Sharks.
Poturalski just can't seem to adjust his game to the NHL level, but at the AHL level, he has been one of the best players for almost a decade.
Sharks' Sam Dickinson Wins OHL Defensemen Of The Year
San Jose Sharks' Sam Dickinson has won the OHL Defenseman of the Year award.
He was averaging 49-52 points per season for the first few years until the 2018-19 season when he scored 70 points with the Checkers. He would go on to win the Calder Cup that season.
Then in 2021-22 with the Wolves, he scored 101 points in 71 games and won his second Calder Cup.
Since then, he has been back at the 49-52 point pace per season, until this year with the Barracuda, where he scored 73 points in 59 games.
If history repeats itself, there could be a chance that the Barracuda go on to win the Calder Cup because Poturalski scored over 55 points in a season.
The Barracuda plays the Ontario Reign in their first-round matchup, which is a best-of-three series.
