The 2025 NHL Draft is just 11 days away, and things around the NHL are going to get interesting and fast. As soon as the 2025 Stanley Cup Finals are over, the floodgates will open and there will be a ton of NHL news and rumours.

However, in the midst of all that, NHL teams will still be holding their scouting meetings to go over who they are looking to select with their draft picks. For the San Jose Sharks, they have two first picks in the first round. Obviously, by now everyone knows they have the second overall pick, but they also have the 30th pick which we could see them flip for an additional second rounder. But if they do keep it, there will be another first round draft choice that will be added to their prospect pool.

Today, we’re taking a closer look at who they could take with the 30th: Bill Zonnon, who spent the year with Rouyn-Noranda but was traded to Blainville-Boisbriand Armada in the QMJHL.

    Scouting Report

    Team: Blainville-Boisbriand Armada (QMJHL)

    2024–25 Stats: 28 G, 55 A, 83 P, 32 PIM

    DOB: Oct. 4, 2006

    Position: Left Wing

    Shoots: Left

    Height: 6-foot-2

    Weight: 190 lbs

Zonnon, known for his power-forward style of play, really turned it on in the back half of the 2024-25 season. Over the course of the season, he learned to use his big frame and his hockey smarts to his advantage and it was like a switch flipped. He ended up finishing with 83 points and a very minimal 32 PIM.

His versatility is something that scouts seem to like. He can play on the wing or down the middle, which gives teams some flexibility with where they picture him playing for their team. By using his size, he gets to the front of the net, wins puck battles and is very strong on the forecheck. We've also seen him throw his weight around to separate the opposition from the puck. Along with his power forward style of play, he also has a good two-way mindset. He can attack in the offensive zone but also knows what to do in the defensive end to disrupt play and get the puck out of his end.

Sharks Should Target Brad Marchand This Offseason Sharks Should Target Brad Marchand This Offseason The San Jose Sharks will have plenty of money to spend this summer, and they should be pretty active in free agency this summer. While they may not be ready to make a playoff push as early as next season, they should be willing to spend big so they can finally start to win more games.

    What the Scouts Are Saying:

"Constantly supporting teammates in all three zones, Zonnon jumps to the aid of defencemen on the back wall, gets the puck back, offers timely passing options, and moves the puck quickly in transition, orchestrating clever passing plays and entries in the offensive zone. When no play is open, he falls back on his forechecking ability. Defenders retrieving the puck better hurry their play when facing Zonnon. If they take too long to pass, the forward comes barreling down on them, pinning them to the wall, freeing the puck with his stick, and moving to an open teammate"  — Elite Prospect, 2025

"Zonnon contributed 28G-55A in the regular season for the Huskies. He’s deployed in all situations, works to extend plays and is always involved. He’s a very valuable team player who scores as much as he works to keep the puck out of his net."  — Jason Bukala, Sportsnet

"He plays a versatile game that impresses both on but especially off the puck, where he keeps his feet moving, works, finds space, gets to loose pucks, forces turnovers and tracks. Nobody works harder. He can play both center and wing." — Scott Wheeler, The Athletic

"There just wasn’t too many moments of playmaking skill or more advanced scoring instincts showcased at the time, but that’s changed. One of the leading QMJHL scorers, Zonnon has been able to incorporate a lot more skill in his overall game, carrying the puck more in transition and improving his passing effectiveness, working the puck towards the middle often and with a great rate of success." — Smaht Scouting

"Zonnon often takes interesting routes off the puck that end up with him cutting across the goalie's face as a shot comes in or collecting a loose puck along the boards before a battle even has the chance to start. He shows some excellent passing ability, particularly off the forecheck, where he retrieves the puck and hits a teammate in stride with a perfectly timed pass." — Tony Ferrari, The Hockey News

3 Things The Sharks Can Do With Klim Kostin 3 Things The Sharks Can Do With Klim Kostin The 2024-25 season is almost finished, with the Stanley Cup Final closing in on being completed, and a champion soon to be crowned. The Edmonton Oilers trail the Florida Panthers heading into Game 6, and while there are some former San Jose Sharks that fans can cheer for, fans are mainly focused on what the offseason will look like for their team.

It feels like this is the type of player that the Sharks could use alongside their skilled core. With them having the second overall pick, there is a good chance that they will take Michael Misa, who will fit in well with Macklin Celebrini and Will Smith. Zonnon's style will fit in that top six as the physical, power forward type who can go into the corners and battle in front of the net. If he is available at number 30, it wouldn't be surprising to hear the Sharks call his name.

They’re still deep into a rebuild, but this summer presents an opportunity to push that rebuild along a little faster. While GM Mike Grier seems to want the rebuild to happen somewhat naturally, you can bet he’ll be adding some fresh faces to the roster. With around $53 million in cap space, the Sharks need to at least hit the salary cap floor, but if they decide to spend more, it will likely translate into a better product on the ice.
