The San Jose Sharks have traded Mikael Granlund and Cody Ceci to the Dallas Stars.

Granlund is the Sharks' highest-value trade asset, with Ceci arguably as the second-highest value on the Sharks.

Granlund has 15 goals and 30 assists in 52 games this season. He is the team's leading scorer with 45 points, and he is also an alternate captain. The Finnish forward has been instrumental in the development of William Eklund and Fabian Zetterlund. 

The San Jose Sharks acquired Ceci during the 2024 offseason from the Edmonton Oilers. San Jose sent defenseman Ty Emberson as part of the deal. Ceci has often played on the top pair of defense for head coach Ryan Warsofsky, usually paired with Jake Walman. 

In 54 games, Ceci has four goals, 11 assists, and is a -9. He's been solid on a team that has greatly struggled on the blue line. 

Sharks GM Mike Grier has converted Mikael Granlund and Cody Ceci into another first-round pick. A conditional fourth-round pick that could become a third if the Stars advance to the Stanley Cup Final is also part of the reported trade return.

"We set our price and Dallas was ready to meet it," Grier said about why he said yes to the deal.
