Cooley, a Los Gatos, Calif. native, was acquired from the Buffalo Sabres at the NHL Trade Deadline last season and found a new lease on life for his hockey career after working with San Jose Sharks goalie coach Thomas Speer.

The two netminders have been teammates before, as they played for the Nashville Predators' AHL affiliate, the Milwaukee Admirals, during the 2022-23 season.

Both goalies are known for their flamboyant and happy personalities. Askarov's antics began on Sunday during the skills competition. Askarov did not win the rapid-fire shot competition but shared a laugh with Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Alex Steeves after he continuously beat him on the blocker side.

The fun didn't stop there, as the 22-year-old literally walked off the shootout relay after stopping all five attempts to take the lead in the event. He would eventually be a co-winner with Toronto Marlies goalie Dennis Hildeby and Providence Bruins goalie Michael DiPietro.

The netminder made sure to play an extra aggressive style during the challenge. He topped off his perfect run with an ideal Yaroslav Askarov celebration.

During the All-Star Game on Monday, Cooley and Askarov lifted the Pacific Division to a 1-1-1 record. Askarov and Cooley each made five saves on six shots against the North Division for the 3-2 win.

The two recreated their postgame win celebration from their time together in Milwaukee, a sumo jumping hip bump.

The two shared many pictures on their Instagram accounts after the All-Star game.

Askarov leads AHL goalies in save percentage this season at .938, and Cooley is tied for the league lead in wins with 18.
