The San Jose Sharks can finally have a happy Celebrini day, as they have drafted Macklin Celebrini first overall at the 2024 NHL Draft.

The San Jose Sharks can finally have a happy Celebrini day, as they have drafted Macklin Celebrini first overall at the 2024 NHL Draft.

It hasn't been a secret that the Boston University center was going first overall, but the fact it finally happened means the next step of the rebuild is here. San Jose now has two top centermen in Celebrini, and Will Smith will be the franchise's cornerstones.

Celebrini also returns to San Jose, where he played for one season with the Jr. Sharks hockey program.

GM Mike Grier hasn't said anything about Celebrini's decision to leave BU or sign his entry-level contract. That question was already front and center, but with Celebrini drafted, this question is now the top wonder throughout the league.

Celebrini is the Sharks' first-ever No. 1 pick in franchise history. He slides ahead of Sharks legend Patrick Marleau as the highest player ever drafted.
