The San Jose Sharks are in the market for proven NHL veterans, and Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Mark Giordano might be someone the Sharks consider signing.
Giordano, 40, is the oldest player in the NHL, and a recent report said that he isn't ready to hang up the skates.
"Mark has made the decision that he's playing for a few more years," his agent, Rich Winter, told McGran. "He feels very confident. He's been talking to a lot of people who tell him: Don't quit until they make you."
He spent the last two seasons with the Maple Leafs, earning a salary of $800k. He played only 46 games this season and scored three goals and six assists. He did not play in the Maple Leafs' seven-game series loss against the Boston Bruins.
"He clearly wants to play," Winter said.
At 40, Giordano isn't what he used to be. In 2019, he won the Norris Trophy after scoring 17 goals and 57 assists. He also won the Mark Messier Leadership Award for the 2019-20 season. Both of those awards were won during his time with the Calgary Flames.

According to Reynolds, the Maple Leafs and Giordano have mutual interest, but he isn't at the top of the priority list.
"It’s been well documented since the end of the season that there’s mutual interest," Reynolds said. "But they’re working on other things."
San Jose has young defensemen like Shakir Mukhamadullin, Henry Thrun, and Ty Emberson, who could benefit from an addition like Giordano. Thrun thrived with Jan Rutta as his partner until late in the season, and while Giordano will likely be in a lesser role than Rutta, his 1,148 games of experience will undoubtedly bring fundamental knowledge off the ice.
Insider Elliotte Friedman said on his 32 Thoughts podcast that Giordano would be a "perfect Shark."
Free agency starts one week from Monday, July 1st, and the Sharks could be busy making moves.
