The San Jose Sharks are going to look a little different next season, and despite what changes they plan to make this summer, one of their own players is eligible for an extension and could be looking at a massive extension, according to a trusted Sharks insider.

Sheng Peng, who runs San Jose Hockey Now, believes William Eklund could earn a seven-year extension when he becomes eligible for one on July 1st, 2025, and could make $7.5 million annually, which comes out to a total of $52.5 million.

Peng was very clear that there is no indication of whether the Sharks are going to try and get a short or long-term deal done with Eklund, and also suggested a short-term, two-year, $9 million deal for Eklund, which is a $4.5 million average annual value.

Either way, a $7.5 million annual salary for Eklund is very solid, considering he seems to be getting stronger offensively as each season goes on. If he can continue to grow and become even more confident as the Sharks try to get back into contention, this deal could look incredible, especially with the salary cap expected to rise over the next few seasons.
