Sharks' Michael Misa Set To Make NHL Debut Against Hurricanes cover image

The wait is finally over.

San Jose Sharks 2025 second-overall pick Michael Misa is set to make his NHL debut tonight against the Carolina Hurricanes.

Misa had to wait a bit longer than he might have liked, but the moment is finally here. He’s going to play his first NHL game on home ice.

Misa was selected in the first round of the 2025 NHL Draft when the Sharks took him with the second pick. He was one of the first players from his draft class to sign his entry-level contract, and now he’s set to join the NHL and fulfill a childhood dream.

Misa spoke with Sheng Peng of San Jose Hockey Now today and mentioned that both his parents and his brother Luke, who plays for Penn State in the NCAA, will be in attendance.

Head coach Ryan Warsofsky shared what he told Misa about his debut.

“Go enjoy it. Have fun. You only get one NHL debut. He looked good in practice today too. You can see a little extra jump in him. Embrace it. We’ll coach the mistakes. Go play like your head’s on fire.”

It looks like Misa will center the Sharks’ third line alongside Ty Dellandrea and Philipp Kurashev. Depending on how the game goes, there’s a chance he takes a few reps with Will Smith or even Macklin Celebrini.

This is an exciting time for the Sharks organization and fan base. Their hashtag says it all: The Future Is Teal.
