The San Jose Sharks signed defense prospect Mattias Hävelid to a three-year entry-level contract on Saturday.
Hävelid, 21, played this season in the Swedish Hockey League (SHL) with Linköping HC, where he had one assist in 19 games. He also suited up for Djurgårdens IF in Allsvenskan, recording two goals and 12 assists for 14 points.
The Swedish native was drafted by the Sharks in the second round of the 2022 NHL Draft. He’s spent the entire time overseas developing his game since being selected.
Now that he’s signed, he’ll likely attend Sharks training camp in September and get a shot at cracking the NHL roster.
Hävelid is the twin brother of Hugo Hävelid and the son of former NHL defenseman Niclas Hävelid, who played for the Anaheim Ducks, Atlanta Thrashers, and New Jersey Devils.
