Unfortunately, William Eklund won’t be participating after suffering a scary injury just before the tournament. That leaves four Sharks still in action—here’s how they’ve done over the first two days.
Starting with Alexander Wennberg and Team Sweden, they played back-to-back games to open the tournament. In Game 1, they shut out Slovakia 5-0, with Wennberg held off the scoresheet. In Game 2, they looked a bit sluggish early against Austria but still managed a 4-2 win to improve to 2-0. Wennberg sealed the game with an empty-netter, getting his first point of the tournament.
Next up is Macklin Celebrini, who is suiting up for Team Canada and playing on the top line with none other than Sidney Crosby. Canada showed why they’re the tournament favourites with a dominant 4-0 win over Slovenia. Celebrini picked up an assist on the team’s final goal, which came on the power play.
Will Smith and Team USA also got off to a strong start, handling Denmark with ease in a 5-0 win. Smith recorded an assist on the team’s fifth and final goal.
Lastly, there’s Pavol Regenda representing Slovakia. As mentioned above, they were shut out by Sweden 5-0 in their opening game. Regenda didn’t dress for the contest.
Looking ahead, the tournament continues tomorrow with Slovakia facing Slovenia, Canada taking on Latvia, and Sweden getting the day off.
