Former San Jose Sharks forward Tomas Hertl will make his Vegas Golden Knights playoff debut tonight, and Mark Stone will be on his wing.
Stone's return to the Golden Knights' lineup is controversial. It is the second straight year he has gone on LTIR, but he has been ready for game one of the playoffs. Stone was dealing with a lacerated spleen.
Fans around the nation have been suspecting this all along, but Stone is healthy, and Vegas hasn't broken any salary cap rules. If GMs and other front office members want this rule changed, it can be done during the next Collective Bargaining Agreement negotiations.
Sharks captain Logan Couture is unsure who he wants to root for as the Knights take on Joe Pavelski and the Dallas Stars.
"I text with Tommy quite a bit. He loves it. I mean, Vegas is a first-class organization," Couture said. "It's tough. I want Joe Pavelski to win a Stanley Cup, but I also want Tommy Hertl to win one. And Pete DeBoer. And Steve Spott. I don't know who I'm cheering for."
Couture also said seeing Hertl in a Golden Knights uniform is still weird.
Marc-Edouard Vlasic, on the other hand, knows who he's cheering for.
"Probably Dallas because I know more guys on the team," Vlasic said. "Pete is there. Spott is there. Pavs is there, and I know a couple of other guys, too."
The Stars won the Western Conference and will hold home-ice advantage through at least the first three rounds of the playoffs, should they win their series.
