William Eklund is a game-time decision when the San Jose Sharks visit the Chicago Blackhawks tomorrow night.
Per Sheng Peng of San Jose Hockey Now, Eklund is dealing with an upper-body injury.
The winger did not skate at practice, and head coach Ryan Warsofsky slotted Danil Gushchin into Eklund's spot on the top line. Gushchin played opening night but has been a healthy scratch the past two games.
"San Jose Sharks head coach Ryan Warsofsky shared that Eklund has a "little nagging" upper-body injury and is "probably a game-time decision" for Thursday's tilt against the Chicago Blackhawks," Peng wrote in his story.
The Sharks are already without 2024 No. 1 pick Macklin Celebrini, who was Eklund's center during the first game of the season. If Eklund doesn't play against Chicago, San Jose will have already lost two of its three top-line forwards just three games into the 24-25 season.
Celebrini was placed on IR and did not travel to Dallas and Chicago with the team. He is first eligible to be activated on Friday when the Sharks take on the Winnipeg Jets. Warsofsky hasn't ruled out the possibility of Celebrini joining the team and playing that game.
