The San Jose Sharks placed center Mikael Granlund on IR this morning.
The San Jose Sharks placed center Mikael Granlund on IR after he re-aggravated his injury last night.
Granlund missed time during training camp due to a lower-body injury but returned in time to play the final preseason game.
Last night, Granlund's last shift ended with 13:07 remaining in the third period. Head Coach David Quinn told THN on Friday that the forward was hurting from his second shift of the game.
"He's not feeling great today, so we put him on IR, and hopefully, it won't be for long," Quinn said. "You could tell right away he was half of himself. He kept telling me he was okay. [He did] a lot of uncharacteristic things yesterday from his side of things."
Ty Emberson, Nikolai Knyzhov, and Kevin Labanc were scratched last night, but losing a centerman means San Jose may have to call someone up from the AHL.
The San Jose Barracuda regular season begins tonight. DQ said that players tonight can earn a call-up depending on their performance.
Due to the Granlund injury, Henry Thrun could be in line to be the QB of the San Jose Sharks' first powerplay unit.
Quinn did not set a timetable for Granlund's return, but he will have to miss, at minimum, the next seven days before being eligible to be activated.
