Tomas Hertl scored the game-winning goal in overtime as the San Jose Sharks beat the New York Rangers 3-2 on Tuesday night.
"Just couldn't be prouder of this team, and I've been proud of him on many occasions in a tough season, but none more than I am tonight," Sharks head coach David Quinn said.
The Sharks got goals from Nico Sturm and Ryan Carpenter in the third period. Mackenzie Blackwood stopped 29 shots.
Artemi Panarin and Adam Fox scored for the Rangers. Igor Shesterkin stopped 19 shots.
Depth scoring once again came up clutch for San Jose. Sturm and Carpenter capitalized on quick-strike goals to tie the game at two in the third period.
"When you can get offense up and down your lineup, you just got a much better chance to win," Quinn said. "Takes a little bit of the burden off the top guys. They're not going to have great nights every night. They're up against everybody's top lines. To get that production out of every line really gives you a chance every single night."
It was a sleepy game, but the intensity in the third period was strong. The Sharks' powerplay came up empty, but seeing them draw more than two penalties in one game was encouraging.
The Sharks are now on a three-game winning streak. Mario Ferraro didn't play in tonight's game due to a lower-body injury.
Adam Fox taps a rebound home after the Sharks left too much space in the offensive zone. That was Fox's 8th goal of the season.
Artemi Panarin scores his team-leading 29th goal of the season after the Rangers easily established the offensive zone.
Nico Sturm banks in his 3rd goal of the year after an awful turnover by the Rangers.
"The way the game came down, the last two especially, fit my style of play," Sturm said. "I could contribute with the way that I play anyway. There were a lot of situations where I could help the team and last last couple of days. Of course, I'm happy to score and to contribute; that's always the best part about hockey."
Ryan Carpenter scores his third goal of the season with a great deflection. This is a brand-new game.
Tomas Hertl completes the comeback win with his 15th goal of the season and gives the Sharks their third straight win.
