The San Jose Sharks finally won their first game of the season by beating the Philadelphia Flyers 2-1 on Tuesday night.
Tomas Hertl, Mackenzie Blackwood, William Eklund, and David Quinn talked postgame about the win.
"It's a great feeling. Finally, we are past it. We got our first win. We're really excited."
"We played a pretty good 60 minutes [of] hockey. We could have had more shots than what shows on the scoreboard because we spent probably the most time in the O-zone, but it was a great effort."
"It took a little while for sure. We've been so close so many times. It's huge, and I'm really happy to finally get the first one with this new team. They've been so great. Giving me a great opportunity and a good environment, so I'm just happy that we could finally get that first one."
"We were desperate in the D zone. Everyone was clogging up the middle, collapsing to the net, taking away the second chances. I thought they did a great job of limiting second chances, not giving up too many odd-man rushes, and just trying to play more patient above the other team and not letting them get behind us."
"It's a lot of relief in here. Everyone's happy. It's been a long time coming, and now we can take a breath and start to try and put some more together."
"Yeah, I love winning."
"Lion scream or something? Just yelling out loud."
"It was just, [we] both [were] competing, both wanting to win."
"I think all of us gave a good effort today. We all wanted to win. We blocked shots. We played together. We stood up for our goalie. We did the essentials that we needed to do out there. So together today, we played really good hockey."
"We've stuck together through all of this. If you're going to have success in any organization in any sport, you got to have everybody together. And we have it."
"It wasn't like we played great. I don't want to think oh wow, they won a game. We played the way we're capable of playing, but we can play much better. But you know, we checked a lot of boxes and showed some characteristics that we're going to need. I thought there were a lot of good things, but I thought we left a lot of offense on the table."
"I just give these guys so much credit. They've been such a great group to coach. They've never stopped working. They are attentive. They work hard in practice. There are just so many things that went into tonight, and at some point, you say enough's enough."
"You're seeing a guy that can be an elite goalie in this league."
