Brad Rempel-USA TODAY Sports - Oilers Could Look To Sharks For Goaltending Help

The San Jose Sharks might be able to help the Edmonton Oilers goalie situation after they waived Jack Campbell today.

Campbell's time in Edmonton has not gone well. Before last season, he signed a five-year $5 million AAV deal. In 41 career games for the Oilers, Campbell has a .886 save % and a 3.53 GAA.

Those numbers are far from what was expected when the team signed him. The Oilers are having a very rough start to the season, with a record of 2-8-1. They face the Sharks on Thursday.

While there are no bonified trade rumors, the Sharks have had one successful part of this season: goaltending.

The San Jose Sharks defense has been in shambles all season. That leaves Mackenzie Blackwood and Kaapo Kahkonen facing a ton of high-danger shots.

Kahkonen has faced 43 high-danger shots, and Blackwood has faced 87. Blackwood has stopped 69 of those shots, which puts him in the 95th percentile this season. Kahkonen has stopped 35 of his 43.

"I wouldn't say anyone's been great. Maybe [Blackwood]," Mike Grier said. "[Blackwood] might be the only one who's had a really good start to the year, but I think everyone else has been okay."

The way the Oilers play, they give up a lot of high-danger chances. They can't seem to get that timely save. Blackwood and Kahkonen this season have given the Sharks multiple chances to win. Blackwood stopped 50/51 against the Colorado Avalanche.

While GMs don't like to trade goalies within the same division, the Sharks have cap space and goaltending depth to supplement a possible deal with Edmonton.

Although unlikely, the Oilers may get desperate and want to make a move in goal.
