The San Jose Sharks finished their preseason with a 4-3 overtime loss to the Los Angeles Kings in Salt Lake City on Thursday night.
San Jose never led in the game but never trailed by more than a goal. MacKenzie Blackwood started for the Sharks and made 33 saves. Alexander Barabanov, Mike Hoffman, and Thomas Bordeleau scored for San Jose.
"He was very good," Sharks head coach David Quinn said about Blackwood. "He made some big saves for us when he had to and just liked this game."
Blackwood seemed to get better as the game progressed, including a nice glove save to keep the Sharks within one in the third period.
William Eklund once again set up Bordeleau from behind the net. Quinn said he didn't like the team's performance in the first period but was happy with the second and third, especially Bordeleau's.
"I thought he got better as the game went on," Quinn said. "I didn't love his first period, but I thought [in] the second and third, he was much more engaged and much better."
Some costly defensive turnovers led to goals against the San Jose Sharks.
"I thought we defended pretty well," Quinn said. "I thought we defended too much. We need to show a little bit more poise in that situation and those situations, but I thought, for the most part, we did a pretty good job."
San Jose Sharks GM Mike Grier and David Quinn must get the NHL roster down to 23 by next Tuesday. There will be tough decisions, as many guys have had a strong training camp/preseason.
