Dean Tait - Hockey Shots - Sharks Get Three Goals From Defensemen; Win in Couture's Return; Beat Ducks 5-3

The San Jose Sharks got goals from three different defensemen as they beat the Anaheim Ducks 5-3 on Saturday night.

Logan Couture returned to the San Jose Sharks lineup and made an instant impact. Couture had an assist but was a factor across all parts of the game. San Jose got goals from Marc-Edouard Vlasic, Fabian Zetterlund, Kyle Burroughs, Jan Rutta, and Tomas Hertl. Mackenzie Blackwood started and made 32 saves.

"My first game in a long time, the first game where my son was able to be at for the first period. [I] saw him In warmup," Couture said postgame. "So there's a lot of things going through my head there. It almost felt surreal when I stepped down on the ice."

The Ducks got goals from Jackson LaCobe, Adam Henrique, and Mason McTavish. John Gibson wasn't too busy, but he made 14 saves.

San Jose, once again, didn't do enough shooting the puck tonight. They capitalized on their chances and got better as the game went on. The team had a clear boost from Couture's return to the lineup.

"I was thinking about it all day. What I was going to do on the first shift, I figured he was going to start me," Couture said about his hit right away. "I didn't know he was going to start me with Tommy on the wing there. I just wanted to run into a few people and just with being injured. I hadn't hit anyone in a long time, and I wanted to see how it felt. It felt good, so I kept doing it."

From a lineup standpoint, head coach David Quinn juggled the lines throughout. There were many changes, like Anthony Duclair moving from the fourth line to the first line with Tomas Hertl.

"Maybe a snapshot of things to come when we get healthy, but you never know," Quinn said about starting Couture and Hertl together.

Filip Zadina thought he had his 6th goal of the season, but after a coach's challenge, the play was deemed offside.

Logan Couture makes a sweet backhand pass to Marc-Edouard Vlasic for his second goal of the season.

"His last name is French, and I'm French, so it's a French Connection," Vlasic said. "We've been playing with each other for 15 years now. It's nice to have him back. He made a nice play. I joined the rush, and we scored."

The Ducks quickly tie it up with a weird goal. After review, the referees determined that the puck had completely crossed the goal line. It was Jackson LaCombe's first goal of the season and first in the NHL.

Tomas Hertl finds Kyle Burroughs on the backdoor for his first goal of the season and first as a member of the San Jose Sharks.

Fabian Zettelrund goes high short side for his 13th goal of the season.

"He's a heck of a kid and a really good player," Quinn said about Zetterlund postgame "You're seeing why we traded for him."

Adam Henrique finishes off a crazy scramble in front for his 12th goal of the season. The second period ends with the Sharks leading 3-2 but badly outshot 20-7.

Jan Rutta beats Gibson five-hole for his first goal as a member of the Sharks and gives them a 4-2 lead. It was his first goal in 76 games.

Mason McTavish scores his 13th goal of the season on the powerplay and brings the Ducks within one with 4:49 left in the third.

Tomas Hertl adds an empty net goal to seal it.
