San Jose Sharks forward Alexander Wennberg has been sitting at 99 career goals for a long time.
The Swedish center has missed the last four games with an upper-body injury, but all signs indicate his return on Sunday against the Calgary Flames.
He hasn't scored a goal since December 14th against the Utah Hockey Club, but he has played in 18 games since then and has eight goals in 52 games this season.
"It would be nice to get the 100th. I've had my opportunities, but yeah, it will come. I gotta start shooting a little bit more. Be a little bit more selfish in that way, but at the end of the day, it's an accomplishment that sooner or later, it's gonna come," Wennberg said. "Right now, I'm focused on playing the best hockey."
Wennberg will have a slightly more important role than he did before his injury, as the Sharks traded Mikael Granlund to the Dallas Stars.
Wennberg has been skating in Granlund's old spot on the second line with Fabian Zetterlund and Will Smith.
Wennberg told THN that the 4 Nations break helped him reset mentally as well as physically, making him even more
" You get the chance to watch a team play. When you play in the game, it's so different from when you're looking from above. Obviously, there's a few things you notice, but for me, I think it's also like you get away from it. Which now gets you even more eager to get back," Wennberg said. "I haven't played in three, four weeks or something. I think in that way, being away gives you a little bit of a jump in your step because you're missing a little bit more than you usually do."
Wennberg will likely get a chance on the San Jose Sharks top power play, as Granlund is no longer available.
