Emberson will now play for Kris Knoblauch with Edmonton. Knoblauch is very familiar with Emebrson's game as Emberson was one of the top defensemen for the New York Rangers AHL affiliate in 2022-23.
In 69 games under Knoblauch, Emberson had seven goals and 20 assists. He was also named the 22-23 AHL Eastern Conference's Best Defensive Defenseman.
His skating and ability to make a strong breakout pass make him successful. He showed off those attributes on a Sharks team that was woeful in defense. While paired with Mario Ferraro, the two were one of the best shutdown pairs in the NHL.
Emberson joins a Stanley Cup contender in a system where he was only one year removed from playing. Emberson is dealing with an injury but told reporters that he will be ready to go for the start of training camp.
The 24-year-old should be a nice depth piece for the Oilers' push for a Stanley Cup.
