The San Jose Sharks were sellers again at the NHL trade deadline, and before their game against the New York Islanders, the players reacted to GM Mike Grier's moves.

The most significant loss was Fabian Zetterlund for his on-ice play and his relationship in the locker room.

William Eklund and Zetterlund, both Swedish players, were best friends. The 22-year-old's loss of Zetterlund hit home, and the winger requested not to speak publicly at this time.

Eventually, Eklund will appear in front of the media, but for now, the reaction is from his teammates.

"It sucks. It's never easy. I was talking to him a little bit yesterday, obviously an emotional time for him and for everyone else who's involved," Tyler Toffoli said. "But at the same time, I feel like we got a really close group of guys here that [Eklund] can lean on, and I think he'll be just fine."

Fellow Swede Alex Wennberg was close with Zetterlund and answered questions about the trade.

"I know William's gonna get right. Right now, it's just a lot of emotions right after when it happens," Wennberg said. "The same thing with Fabian. I called him last night, and it's not easy. You pack your stuff, and you're gone in a heartbeat. It's gonna be different. I probably have to be a little bit of a Fabian to save [Eklund] a little bit."

Klim Kostin will get the first crack at filling Zetterlund's role. Kostin will play on a line with Macklin Celebrini and Will Smith.

Head coach Ryan Warsofsky wasn't shy about expressing his feelings on losing Zetterlund.

" I know our players just lost a really important teammate, a brother, and that's tough. That's really tough," Warsofsky said. "We've got to push forward and finish this season off the right way and have an understanding that there is a business side of that really sucks."

The Sharks take on the Islanders at 7 p.m. PT.
