Dean Tait - Hockey Shots - Catching Up With Sharks Prospects

Although the San Jose Sharks have yet to win a game in the NHL this season, the team's top prospects are succeeding at lower levels.

    Shakir Mukhamadullin

Shakir Mukhamadullin has been a monster for the San Jose Barracuda so far. He plays in every situation and is the team's No. 1 defenseman.

In four games, the Russian has one goal and three assists. His goal came on the powerplay, which is a good sign for his offensive development.

Mukhamadullin's stellar play during the preseason and early success in the AHL could mean a call-up to the NHL soon.

    Will Smith

Smith is the Sharks' top prospect. This season, Smith is playing in the NCAA with Boston College. He became the school's highest-ever NHL draft pick at No. 4 this past draft.

In four games so far, Smith leads BC in scoring with five points (3 goals, 2 assists).

Smith's high-powered offense is exactly what the Sharks will want when he gets to the NHL.

    Quentin Musty

Musty started his junior season late because the San Jose Sharks held him in camp for longer. In five games, Musty has seven points (2 goals, 5 assists). That ties him for fourth on the team in scoring.

In his season debut for the Sudbury Wolves, Musty scored the OT winner.

Musty told THN during training camp that he believes that Sudbury could challenge for a CHL championship.

    Kasper Halttunen

Kasper Halttunen was drafted because of his goal-scoring ability. He has nine goals in 11 games for the London Knights this season. He also has two assists to make him a point-a-game player.

Since joining London, Halttunen has shown some more energy and swagger to his game. The kid's confidence is growing, and a successful season in juniors is precisely what the Sharks are hoping for.

Halttunen is adjusting nicely to the North American game of hockey.
