Leading up to the 2025 NHL trade deadline, St. Louis Blues captain Brayden Schenn was the subject of several trade rumors. However, the Blues decided not to move him after their late-season surge. This ultimately proved to be the right decision, as they secured a playoff spot, and Schenn's strong play was a reason behind it.
Yet, now that the Blues' season is over, Schenn is once again creating chatter as a potential trade candidate. In his latest trade board for The Athletic, NHL insider Chris Johnston listed Schenn at the No. 14 spot.
As Johnston noted, Schenn's full no-trade clause changes to a 15-team no-trade list, so a trade would be easier for the Blues to make this summer than during this season. However, with how important of a piece Schenn is, trading him would come with plenty of risk for St. Louis.
Schenn, 33, had another strong season with the Blues in 2024-25. In 82 games, the 6-foot-1 center posted 18 goals, 50 points, 194 hits, and a plus-3 rating. With numbers like these, Schenn was once again one of the Blues' top offensive contributors. In addition, he still makes a major impact with his physicality and leadership, so the Blues would miss him if they traded him.
Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see what happens between the Blues and Schenn this summer. With the Blues having such a strong finish to the season and making the playoffs, trading Schenn may not be the best decision right now.
