Insider Gives Big Trade Talks Update On Blues' Brayden Schenn

St. Louis Blues captain Brayden Schenn has been discussed often in the rumor mill over the last month. However, a new update on the Schenn trade talks should help decrease the questions surrounding the star's future in St. Louis

On a recent episode of TSN Insider Trading, Darren Dreger reported that a Schenn trade is less likely to occur with the Blues being back in the playoff race.

"Yeah [a Schenn trade is less likely]," Dreger said. "One point behind the Vancouver Canucks in the West. They have 21 games remaining and Doug Armstrong and the Blues have said all along 'we don't have to trade our captain. He's under contract here.' Maybe they revisit in the off-season. So he is not going to soften on the expectation, the ask, and what it would take to consider trading Brayden Schenn. Of course, there's time left for that call to be made, but it seems like they're right in the thick of things."

The Blues have been trending in the right direction lately, winning four out of their last five games. With this hot streak, they have gotten themselves back in the playoff race, and trading an important player like Schenn would not help their odds of playing post-season hockey this spring.

Schenn has been one of the Blues' top all-around players again this season. In 61 games, he has 12 goals, 37 points, and 151 hits.

Nevertheless, it will be fascinating to see what happens between Schenn and the Blues at the deadline, but given this latest report from Dreger, it seems like he will remain in St. Louis.
