The Tampa Bay Lightning are coming off a slight break. The rest came at the perfect time, as they make a push for the playoffs.

During the Bolts four-day break, the Islanders snapped their win streak and the Red Wings lost six in a row. All of that helps gives the Lightning a little bit of breathing room, but they’ll need to go on a run, starting tonight when they face the New York Rangers.

It’s hard to predict the direction the rest of this season will go in, but based off the first game post-trade deadline, the Lightning could reclaim the momentum and shift it in their direction.

Newly acquired defenseman, Matt Dumba is expected to be back on the right side, while Nick Perbix shifts up and over to the left side next to Erik Cernak. Dumba logged 20:04 of ice time on Saturday night and will continue to be welcomed help on the blue line.

Forward Anthony Duclair will likely draw back into the second line with captain Steven Stamkos and Anthony Cirelli. Duclair set the tone early on Saturday night when he made it 5-0 and put home a feed from Stamkos.

Tanner Jeannot and Erik Cernak were both full participants at Wednesdays practice, taking regular shifts throughout. After an optional morning skate on Thursday, Lightning coach Jon Cooper indicated that Cernak would be in the lineup Thursday night but Jeannot would not.

This is going to be a big one for the Lightning. Puck drop is at 7pm.
