Former Tampa Bay Lightning forward Tyler Johnson has signed a professional tryout (PTO) contract with the Boston Bruins.

Johnson is one of the top players without a contract for the 2024-25 season, but now he is a step closer to getting one after this PTO. He will now aim to impress with Boston and earn a contract with the Original Six club from here.

With the Lightning arguably needing more forward depth, Johnson could have been a solid PTO addition to the club's training camp roster. However, that theory can now be forgotten, as he will be looking to earn a deal from the Bruins.

Johnson has the potential to make a case for a contract with the Bruins. When looking at their forward group, it is clear that they need some help at the right wing position. When noting that Johnson can play both down the middle and on the wing, he could be a decent depth signing for the Bruins if they elect to hold onto him after this PTO.

Johnson appeared in 589 games over nine seasons with the Lightning, recording 161 goals and 361 points. He notably won two Stanley Cups during his stint with the Bolts.

In 738 career NHL games, Johnson has 193 goals and 431 points.
