This former Tampa Bay Lightning forward has a big opportunity in front of him.

Former Tampa Bay Lightning forward Austin Watson is getting a big chance, as he has been recalled by the Detroit Red Wings.
Watson joined the Red Wings on a professional tryout (PTO) before the start of training camp. The veteran forward impressed during his PTO, as he earned a contract for the season from the Red Wings at the start of the campaign.
Yet, right after signing his new contract, Watson was placed on waivers and sent down to the Red Wings' AHL affiliate, the Grand Rapids Griffins. Now, he is getting his first opportunity with Detroit through this call-up.

Watson will now look to impress during his first call-up with the Red Wings. If he does, it will help his chances of sticking around on the NHL roster.
In 33 games last season with the Lightning, Watson had two goals, two assists, 85 hits, and 93 penalty minutes. Overall, the 6-foot-4 winger can provide plenty of toughness and grit in a depth role. It will be interesting to see how much of an impact he makes with the Red Wings during his promotion.
