Former Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman Sean Day is taking his talents overseas, as he has signed a two-year contract with HV71 of the Swedish Hockey League.

Day, 26, spent each of the last four seasons with the Lightning organization. He appeared in two NHL games for the Bolts during the 2021-22 season, where he had zero points to go along with a minus-2 rating. After that, he never received another recall from the Lightning.

During this past season with the Lightning's AHL affiliate, the Syracuse Crunch, Day had five goals, 23 points, and a minus-3 rating in 54 games. He also played in eight playoff games for the Crunch, recording one goal and three points.

Day's best season with the Crunch came during the 2021-22 campaign. In 69 games for the AHL squad that season, the 6-foot-3 defender posted career highs with eight goals, 32 assists, and 40 points.

Overall, with Day heading to Sweden, the Crunch have officially lost a pretty solid part of their blueline. It will be very interesting to see what kind of numbers he puts together overseas from here.
