The Lightning should target this defenseman again during the summer.

The Tampa Bay Lightning were heavily linked to Noah Hanifin leading up to the 2024 NHL Trade Deadline. It was reported that the Lightning were also the Massachusetts native's preferred destination. However, the Vegas Golden Knights scooped him up out of nowhere, much to the dissatisfaction of Lightning fans.

While missing out on Hanifin was tough for the Lightning, the door is still open for them to target him this summer. At this juncture, the Golden Knights have not signed Hanifin to an extension. If this remains true on the first day of free agency, the Lightning would be incredibly wise to pursue him again.

Of course, Hanifin's known interest in joining the Lightning is a big reason why they should look to add him. However, that is just the tip of the iceberg.

Bringing in Hanifin would give the Lightning another star defenseman on their blue line. Their top four could use a boost, and he would give them that. This is because he is a strong two-way defenseman who is incredibly dependable defensively and produces well offensively.

The Lightning would need to clear out cap space during the summer to sign Hanifin, but considering their current situation on the blue line, it would certainly be worth it.
