Andrei Vasilevskiy is heating up at a crucial part of the season.
The Tampa Bay Lightning got a massive 5-3 win over the Florida Panthers last night (March 16). Superstar goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy was the main reason for it, as he saved 47 out of 50 shots. Playing that excellently against one of the NHL's best teams is not only impressive but very promising.
Vasilevskiy, 29, has had a bit of a tough season in 2023-24, as he has a .898 SV% and 2.96 GAA in 41 appearances. However, what's encouraging is that he has been trending in the right direction lately, with this dominant performance against the Cats being only the latest example.
Vasilevskiy has won four out of his last five starts, including an excellent 25-save shutout against the Philadelphia Flyers on March 9. He has also a .911 SV% over those five games.
With the Lightning looking to cement a playoff spot, they need Vasilevskiy to continue to play well. When performing at his best, he is arguably the top goalie in the sport, and we are starting to see that again. We must wait and see if he continues this hot play from here.
