Many wondered this past off-season how the Lightning would be able to replace long-time captain Steven Stamkos in the event of his leaving for free agency. Tampa Bay promptly signed Jake Guentzel to a seven-year deal worth $63 million. So far, the move has greatly benefitted Tampa Bay.
The Omaha, Nebraska native has gotten off to a fast start in his first 15 games in Tampa Bay, scoring seven goals and 15 points. Guentzel is coming off a two-goal performance in his last outing against the Winnipeg Jets, which helped the Lightning snap a four-game losing streak. The 15 points place him third on the Lighting roster behind Brandon Hagel and Nikita Kucherov.
Guentzel will have plenty of chances in the remaining 67 games to add to his tally, as he currently resides on the second line with Nick Paul and Cam Atkinson. Guentzel will also have more offensive opportunities on the powerplay with Kucherov, Hagel, Anthony Cirelli, and Victor Hedman.
Jake GuentzelThe Lightning will be back in action on Nov. 16 to face the New Jersey Devils. It will be fascinating to see how Guentzel performs against the Metropolitan Division club from here.
