The Tampa Bay Lightning have acquired forward prospect Lucas Mercuri from the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for a 2025 sixth-round pick. In addition, the Lightning have announced that they have signed Mercuri to a two-year entry-level contract, which begins next season.

Mercuri let the Hurricanes know that he was not interested in signing an entry-level deal with them, so they made available. As a result, the Lightning have brought him in to strengthen their prospect pool.

Mercuri, 23, just completed a four-year collegiate career with UMass this season. In 148 games with the school over that span, the 6-foot-3 center posted 28 goals, 85 points, and a plus-16 rating.

Mercuri had his best season with UMass this campaign, however. In 40 games, the 2020 sixth-round pick set new career highs with 10 goals, 21 assists, and 31 points.

Overall, there is no harm in the Lightning bringing in an interesting prospect like Mercuri. It will be fascinating to see how much of an impact he can make with the Lightning later down the road from here.
