Steeves spent three seasons with Notre Dame, from 2018-2021, before signing with Toronto as an undrafted forward.
Alex Steeves and several other University of Notre Dame alumni returned to their school earlier this week for a pro camp before their professional seasons get underway later this month.
The 24-year-old forward and his former teammates are on the University's campus in Notre Dame, Indiana for the school's annual pro camp, where former players in pro hockey participate in several on and off-ice events.
Steeves played three seasons at Notre Dame, scoring 33 goals and 36 assists for 69 points in 104 games. His final season in College, which saw him have 32 points (15 goals, 17 assists) in 29 games, helped earn him a three-year, entry-level contract with the Maple Leafs.
The forward signed the deal in March 2021 and made his professional debut with the Toronto Marlies in the fall of that year. Steeves scored 23 goals and 23 assists for 37 points in 58 games during his first AHL season.
During that same year, Bobby McMann broke the Marlies rookie goal record, originally set by former Maple Leaf Josh Leivo, who scored 23 goals during the 2013-14 season. Steeves and McMann each tied the record around the same time before McMann broke the 24-goal mark a few games later.
Since signing with the Maple Leafs, Steeves has played seven NHL games, tallying one assist and averaging 10:14 of ice time. The left-shot winger had a career-high in points last season with the Marlies, scoring 27 goals and 30 assists in 65 games. Steeves was also an AHL All-Star.
The restricted free agent re-signed with Toronto on Aug. 21, inking a one-year, two-way contract worth $775,000.
