NHL Reveals Joseph Woll's Curtis Joseph-Like Mask for 2024-25 Season with Maple Leafs

Former Maple Leafs goaltender Ilya Samsonov unveiled a similar mask ahead of the 2023-24 season.

The Toronto Maple Leafs are making a captaincy change. The Hockey News breaks down why Auston Matthews will become the 26th captain in franchise history.

Joseph Woll has a new goalie mask paint job for the upcoming season.

The NHL unveiled several new masks for the upcoming season on Wednesday afternoon. One of the masks had some Curtis Joseph-like features, such as the eyes and the teeth, which the goaltender wore while he was with Toronto.

The new mask was created by Dave Art, an artist who paints helmets for plenty of goaltenders throughout the NHL. Woll's mask last season had the Maple Leafs logo painted all over it and eagles on each side of his head, where his ears are.

Before that helmet, the 26-year-old had a mask with a blue brick wall, a Maple Leafs logo on top of it, and what appeared to be wings along the sides. Ilya Samsonov had a similar mask painted last season but changed it up after a rough start.

Woll signed a three-year, $10.98 million extension on July 1, which carries an annual average value of $3.66 million and begins after next year. His cap hit for the 2024-25 season is $766,667.

The goaltender played a career-high 25 games with the Maple Leafs last year, winning 12 games and having a .907 save percentage. Woll suffered two separate injuries this past season; a high-ankle sprain, which kept him out of the lineup for nearly three months and a sprained back at the end of Game 6 against the Boston Bruins.

Woll has a 21-13-1 record and a .912 save percentage through 36 career NHL games. Toronto's goaltenders for next season include Woll, Anthony Stolarz, Matt Murray, and potentially Dennis Hildeby if called upon due to injuries.
