This is the second hand-related injury that Jarnkrok has suffered this season.

The 27-year-old forward was set to become an unrestricted free agent, but really wanted to stay in Toronto.

Calle Jarnkrok will be out of the Maple Leafs lineup for the foreseeable future after suffering a hand injury on Thursday in Philadelphia.

The forward left in the second period of Toronto's 6-2 win over the Philadelphia Flyers on Thursday after going into the boards hard. Jarnkrok was deflecting a pass into the Flyers' zone and lost his footing, resulting in the head-first collision with the boards.

"He has a hand injury," Maple Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe said on Friday. "It's a week-to-week type of injury for him."

This is the second major injury of Jarnkrok's season. He suffered a broken knuckle in practice on Jan. 26 which kept him out until Toronto's game against the New York Rangers on Mar. 2.

Keefe didn’t specify if it was the same hand that was injured as before.

Jarnkrok appeared in five games before suffering his second injury in his sixth game back. He had two assists and averaged 14:57 of ice time in that span during the almost six games of play.

The 32-year-old forward has 10 goals and 11 assists in 52 games with the Maple Leafs this season. Jarnkrok is in the second year of a four-year, $8.4 million contract he signed with Toronto on July 15, 2022.

"Just like we’ve had others step up for Mitch, we’ll have to do similar with Jarny," Keefe said following their game on Thursday night.
