The Maple Leafs placed the goaltender on injured reserve due with "lower-body tightness".
MONTREAL — The Toronto Maple Leafs will be without the services of Joseph Woll for the first three games of the regular season after the club placed the goaltender on injured reserve.
The Maple Leafs revealed on Wednesday that Woll would not be able to dress in the club's season opener at Bell Centre in Montreal on Wednesday due to "lower-body tightness" according to Toronto head coach Craig Berube. The club called up Dennis Hildeby on an emergency basis to back up Anthony Stolarz.
To accommodate Hildeby's promotion on the roster, the Leafs moved Connor Dewar from IR to long-term injured reserve (LTIR) and Dewar will now be forced to miss the club's first 11 games of the season after undergoing surgery in the off-season on a torn labrum.
The Maple Leafs moved Woll to injured reserve. By placing Woll on IR, the goaltender is forced to be out of the lineup for seven days, meaning he will not dress for the club's next three games including opening night against the Canadiens, on Thursday against the New Jersey Devils and at the home opener against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Woll played in the club's last pre-season game, a 3-2 win against the Detroit Red Wings, where he made 18 saves on 20 shots. He had been limited in action.
Dewar had been a regular participant for much of training camp but had been ruled out of action in the short term.
With a roster of a maximum 23 players, the Leafs are left with approximately $337,000 in cap space, per PuckPedia.com.
