Woll took some time away from social media in mid-to-late 2022 to focus on his game.

Joseph Woll was on a roll but now the Toronto Maple Leafs will be without him for the next little while. What does this mean for Ilya Samsonov?

Joseph Woll is back on social media, partially.

The 25-year-old made the return to Instagram on Sunday, posting a photo of himself looking into the crowd at Scotiabank Arena, with the caption, "looking for the moon @bertuzzi17."

This is Woll's first post on Instagram since July 28, 2022. He deleted all social media later that year to focus on his game on the ice.

"The way my mind works, I think I’m best served when I’m just focusing on what I want to do and it really helps me keep my focus on what’s important to me in my life," Woll said in January. "I guess the one drawback is you don’t see what’s going on with your friends, so I made a list of people I want to keep in touch with."

A large number of fans were both surprised and happy about Woll returning to Instagram. One of his teammates, Alex Steeves, joked about the quality of the image posted.

"Was this taken on a blackberry or Motorola?" He commented.

Woll returning to social media comes after the 25-year-old suffered a high-ankle sprain on Dec. 7 in Ottawa. On Saturday, the Maple Leafs announced that the goaltender would be week-to-week with the injury.

Although injured, the 25-year-old goaltender seems to be in good spirits, given, too, it's also the Maple Leafs' dad's trip. He and his father sat in a box with the other dads during Saturday night's game against the Nashville Predators.

Woll was arguably Toronto's number one goaltender before going down with an injury. In 15 games this season, he has eight wins and a .916 save percentage. And the 25-year-old is doing this all while making only $766,667 for this year, and next.

Maple Leafs head coach, on Saturday, said losing Woll "was a tough blow" for the team. And when asked about a timeline, Keefe said it's "right in line" with the time it took Timothy Liljegren to return to full health.

"The unique nature of playing the position is going to be the greatest challenge coming back. It's undetermined the period of time [Woll will be out], it's more when he gets comfortable."
