The Toronto Maple Leafs will be without Ryan Reaves for some time after an injury that took place in the first period of the team's 6-5 overtime loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets on Thursday.
Reaves was skating when he appeared to lose control of his footing and collided hard into the boards. He tried to get up and continue but immediately dropped to the ice and play was whistled dead.
The 36-year-old couldn't put any weight on his left foot. He skated on one leg to the Maple Leafs' locker room without assistance but had trouble once off the ice.
Following the game, Maple Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe didn't have details of the injury but noted that the skater would be "out for a while."
The Winnipeg native made his return to the lineup after he was a healthy scratch during Toronto's 7-3 win against the New York Rangers on Tuesday.
Signed to a three-year, $4.05 million contract this season, it hasn't been the easiest of first seasons in Toronto. In 20 games, Reaves has one assist. He has been a healthy scratch for seven games so far.
