Toronto Maple Leafs Fan Day sure had a lot of noise.
The Maple Leafs' first Fan Day was full of fun, including a three-on-three competition, a shootout, Simon Says, and races featuring the players' dogs. It was most definitely a day that plenty of Maple Leafs fans, young and old, will remember for a long time.
Max Domi, who's had a fair share of these moments as a fan while his father, Tie, played for the Maple Leafs, spoke with Joe Bowen about the importance of events like these.
"Those are highlights you don't forget for the rest of your life," said Domi.
He also took notice of the crowd, which filled the entire lower bowl inside Scotiabank Arena. "You guys were probably one of the loudest crowds all year," he said, "so it's great to see everyone here."
This is the first event of its kind that the Maple Leafs have held inside Scotiabank Arena, dating back to the skills competition days. They've had their annual outdoor practices, but nothing much like what we saw on Thursday afternoon.
And it's the perfect time, too, with how much the Maple Leafs have struggled this season. They're likely to miss the playoffs for the first time since 2016 and are without their captain, Auston Matthews, for the remainder of the season.
A Maple Leafs player for parts of 11 seasons, Max's father, Tie, was part of the team's success in the early 2,000's. Tie also racked up 2,265 penalty minutes across 777 games with Toronto.
Bowen joked with Max on Thursday that Tie's fighting wouldn't make it into a skills competition, but the 31-year-old quipped that his father would find a way to work it in somehow.
"If you ask him, I don't know. He'd probably disagree with you on that one," Domi smiled. "But it was always fun [going to those events]. Looking back at it, you see him interact with the fans and all that stuff. It was a great time."
Domi is in the second season of a four-year, $15 million contract with the Maple Leafs, which he signed in June 2024. In 221 games with Toronto, he has 27 goals and 112 points, along with four goals and 11 points in 20 playoff games.
