Multiple reports have William Nylander potentially locking in a new eight-year, $92 million extension on Monday.

With William Nylander locked up for the long term, THN's David Alter breaks down what it means for the Toronto Maple Leafs moving forward.

William Nylander could have a brand new eight-year extension with the Toronto Maple Leafs by Monday, according to multiple reports.

Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported on Saturday that Nylander and the Maple Leafs were close to a deal that would see the dynamic forward get an average annual value of around $11.5 million.

On Monday, TSN's Darren Dreger added that both sides were closing in on an eight-year, $92 million extension, but that there is still some work to be done.

TSN's Chris Johnston adds that the deal is expected to include a full no-movement clause and a favorable signing bonus structure.

The Leafs are no strangers to dolling out maximum signing bonuses in which the players received most of their money on July 1 while drawing the league-minimum salary for the remainder of the cash. Much of the money could be front-loaded as well, giving the player maximum money upfront.

The Leafs are set to hold practice on Monday, their first one since completing a three-game sweep of the California NHL clubs.

Following a two-goal performance in. 4-1 win against the San Jose Sharks on Saturday, Nylander couldn't help but smile when asked if he was close to a new deal.

"We'll see," he said.

The 27-year-old Nylander is off to the best start of his NHL career scoring 21 goals and 33 assists to lead his team with 54 points in 37 games.
