Both defensemen were trade deadline acquisitions for the Leafs last season.

A pair of Toronto Maple Leafs defensive rental pickups have found new homes.

According to DailyFaceoff's Frank Seravalli, Joel Edmundson signed a four-year contract with $3.8 million per season.

Meanwhile, Ilya Lybushkin is joining the Dallas Stars on a two-year deal worth $3.25 million per season.

Both defensemen were acquired by the Maple Leafs in March as pure trade deadline rentals.

Edmundson played in just nine regular season games with the Leafs and didn't record any points. However, he did play in all seven games during Toronto's first-round playoff exit against the Boston Bruins and recorded one assist there.

Lyubushkin also joined the Leafs in a trade deadline pickup and reunited with defensive partner Morgan Rielly. It was Lyubushkin's second tenure with Toronto after previously joining during the 2021-22 season. He had four assists in 19 games during his Toronto portion of the 2023-24 season while adding three assists in seven playoff games,

The Maple Leafs reshaped their defense in free agency signing veteran defenseman Chris Tanev to a six-year, $27 million deal and adding Oliver Ekman-Larsson to a four-year, $14 million deal. That left little to no room for guys like Edmundson and Lyubushkin to return.
