The Maple Leafs had several players miss games this season due to a flu bug that is seemingly never going away.
Toronto Maple Leafs forward David Kampf took the ice for the optional morning skate on Wednesday as his club prepared for a game against the Buffalo Sabres.
After missing Tuesday's practice with the flu, his status was certainly in doubt. But it appears Kampf isn't the only one dealing with it.
"He's going to be a game-time decision and he's feeling better today," Maple Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe said of Kampf. "It feels like we're going through it again here and it's catching up to us against with some of these illnesses and we've got some others as well that will be a game-time decision tonight."
The Maple Leafs didn't have a well-attended skate, but that is typical following practice days. Everyone except for Kampf attended Tuesday's session.
Auston Matthews, John Tavares, Mitch Marner and William Nylander are just some of the Maple Leafs who have had to miss at least one game this season due to a flu bug.
If a forward is unable to skate as a result of a bug, it would open up an opportunity for Noah Gregor to slot back into the lineup. The skater has been a healthy scratch for the past six games. The Leafs signed the forward to a one-year, $775,000 after he joined the club on a professional tryout in the fall. He has five goals and six assists in 53 games this season. While spending most of the season in a bottom-six checking role, his play warranted a temporary promotion to the top line when others were not available.
