The Maple Leafs also signed defenseman Cade Webber to a two-year contract extension beginning in 2025-26.

Max Pacioretty and Steven Lorentz are sticking around in the Toronto Maple Leafs organization.

The team signed Pacioretty to a one-year deal worth $873,770 and Lorentz to a one-year contract worth $775,000. Toronto also inked prospect Cade Webber to an extension.

Pacioretty had five points (two goals, three assists) in four pre-season games with the Maple Leafs. Lorentz, playing most of his time on Toronto's fourth line alongside Ryan Reaves and David Kampf, had one goal through four pre-season games.

When Pacioretty signed the PTO, the expectation was that he'd get a contract once training camp wrapped up, per his agent, Allan Walsh.

Although it seemed like a similar situation for Lorentz, who won a Stanley Cup with the Florida Panthers in June, there were still question marks about the Maple Leafs' salary cap heading into the regular season.

Toronto placed Marshall Rifai and Matt Murray on waivers on Sunday as they continue to trim their roster ahead of opening night. It was reported that Connor Dewar (shoulder) would likely begin the season on LTIR, and according to TSN's Darren Dreger, who appeared on TSN 1050's First Up on Monday, so would Jani Hakanpaa (knee).

According to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, Pacioretty has a games-played bonus which could reach up to $600,000. If he hits that, it would count towards the Maple Leafs' cap next season.

The Maple Leafs also announced a two-year extension for defenseman Cade Webber beginning in 2025-26 worth $825,000 per season

The Leafs acquired the defenseman in March from the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for a sixth-round pick. The Leafs signed him to a two-year entry-level contract just before the playoffs began last spring.
