The Maple Leafs made the move just days after goaltender Matt Murray was injured on Sunday.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have called up goaltender Joseph Woll on an emergency basis and will get the start in goal when the club takes on the Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday.

The Maple Leafs were in need of another goaltender after Matt Murray was injured in the first period of the team's 5-2 to the Detroit Red Wings on Sunday. Ilya Samsonov was thrust into action for the second consecutive night after a 31-save shutout against the Ottawa Senators on Saturday.

The Leafs sent Radim Zohorna down to the Marlies. The forward scored a goal in his debut with the club against the Senators.

In four games with the Leafs this season, Woll has a .934 save percentage. Sheldon Keefe confirmed on Tuesday that Murray would be out of the lineup and that more time was needed to determine a timeline for Murray's head injury.

"Joe's been terrific for us, you press on," Maple Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe said of Woll. "With Sammy and Joe, we've got lots of confidence there."

Keefe added that had Murray not been injured, they were planning to get Woll in for some of the games remaining in the regular season.
