Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe said the goaltender is day-to-day but needs more time for the injury to settle.
The Toronto Maple Leafs will proceed without Matt Murray for the foreseeable future as the goaltender was diagnosed with a head injury.
“It’s going to be a day-to-day thing in terms of sorting where he’s and what the timeframe might be," Maple Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe said on Tuesday. "It'd be difficult to put any real timeline on it until we give it more time to settle."
Murray was injured in the first period of the Maple Leafs' 5-2 loss to the Detroit Red Wings on Sunday. The goaltender fell awkwardly after Detroit's Lucas Raymond lost his footing in front of the Toronto goaltender.
The latest injury to Murray is another blow to the 28-year-old's NHL career. It's his third injury with the Leafs this season after missing long stretches of games with an adductor and ankle injury.
And it sounds like Murray is dealing with more than just a head injury.
"He's got some other stuff as well," Keefe said.
Murray has a concussion injury, so there is obvious concern for the goaltender's well-being.
When asked if Murray indeed suffered a concussion, Keefe dodged it by saying "I believe I've answered the question."
The Maple Leafs called up Joseph Woll and he will start in goal when they host the Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday.
The Maple Leafs aquired Murray in a trade with the Ottawa Senators in July. Toronto is committed to Murray for an additional year at a salary cap charge of $4.875 million.
