"You Make My Dreams Come True" by Hall and Oates has been the Maple Leafs' goal song since 2018.

"You Make My Dreams Come True" by Hall and Oates has been the Maple Leafs' goal song since 2018.

It might be time for the Maple Leafs to change their goal song.

For several years, fans and media have debated whether Toronto should find a new goal song.

With it being nearly five years of hearing "You Make My Dreams Come True" by Hall and Oates after every goal, it's understandable why some might want something different.

Even the Maple Leafs' top goal-scorer, Auston Matthews, said in an interview on Tim & Friends last year that he'd be in favour of a change.

"I wouldn't mind hearing something different, maybe switching it up," Matthews told Tim Micallef in September 2022.

"Just change it up, switch it up. See if we can get something else going, and go on a nice little run. I'm always open to change, but if they want to stick with the same one too, I'm fine as well."

A goal song needs to be special. It needs to highlight the city and the passion that all of the fans have for the Maple Leafs. It needs to have meaning.

There are a number of routes Toronto could go with this dilemma if you were to call it that. Keep the current song, change it, or maybe give the players the choice of a goal song for each of them when they score.

I wouldn't mind allowing every player to choose their own songs, though the game presentation team might not agree. But to me, giving each player their own goal song allows every individual to showcase their personality with whichever song they like.

Similar to what the Buffalo Sabres did last season.

I don't believe that's likely to happen. So, instead, I'll give you the top-three songs that should be used when the Maple Leafs find the back of the net.

    3. Edge's WWE Walkout Song (Metalingus - Alter Bridge)

This song caught more attention following Edge's 25th Anniversary match in Toronto on Smackdown this past Friday. But some fans have wanted this song for a while.

The 49-year-old, who's regarded as one of the best professional wrestlers of all time, is often seen supporting the Maple Leafs. He's even done a collaboration with the team prior to his big match in Toronto.

This song, in particular, speaks to the history of the wrestler while also having a catchy chorus that a lot of fans would enjoy. It's not too fast, nor too slow, and to me, is one of the best songs the Maple Leafs could use when they score.

Not everyone is a WWE fan, though, which is why it doesn't take the top spot for me.

    2. Hold On - Justin Bieber

If there's any song that makes total sense for the Maple Leafs, it's "Hold On" by Justin Bieber.

The 29-year-old often professes his love for the team, whether he's at home or when he gets to games. Bieber and the Maple Leafs have also collaborated a few times, most notably on the "Flipside" jerseys that are often worn during Toronto's Next Generation games.

I'd consider the Stratford, Ontario native as someone who carries a similar role to Drake, who's the Toronto Raptors' global ambassador.

This song has the perfect flow to be played after a goal, plus Bieber created a music video, dubbed "Maple Leafs Love Letter", that featured the song and a number of players.

Considering the relationship that the star has with both the team and its players, it would make total sense to see this as the next Maple Leafs goal song.

    1. Knocking At The Door - Arkells

Each of the two songs before each held ties to the Maple Leafs, but they didn't bring what this song has.

"Knocking At The Door" is a party every time it's played, making it the perfect theme for the Maple Leafs when they score. Add that with the fact that the band also has a relationship with the team and you have the ideal goal song in Toronto.

I do wonder, though, with the band's strong relationship with former GM Kyle Dubas, would they still want to go down this road? I'd say yes since the band originated just down the QEW in Hamilton, Ontario, and have always expressed their love for the team.

Each of these songs brings something different, which makes this discussion so entertaining. All three are in different genres, carry different vibes and have their own stories.

Though this is a discussion that occurs every year, it'll be fascinating to see what song plays when the Maple Leafs score their first goal in just under two months.
