As we come to an end on our "Getting To Know" series, it's finally time to look at one of the Utah Mammoth's minor signings, defenseman Scott Perunovich.
Perunovich, 26, started his career with the St. Louis Blues after he was drafted by the organization in the second round of the 2018 NHL Draft. He made his debut with the Blues in the 2021-22 season and went on to play in 19 games, recording six assists and no goals.
His next year in the NHL came in 2023-24 with the Blues, and he played 54 games. For a second season, he failed to record a goal. He finished the year with no goals and 17 assists, proving early in his career that he can help set up plays.
His third season in the NHL saw him get traded. After starting the year with the Blues and appearing in 24 games, he was finally able to score his first NHL goal and added another for two total on the year. Along with the two goals, he also added seven assists for nine points. Unfortunately, after the 24 games, he was dealt to the New York Islanders for a conditional fifth-round pick.
On July 1, the Mammoth signed him with the hopes that he could be a serviceable depth defenseman for the organization. As we head into camp, Perunovich has a good chance at making the opening night roster out of training camp. However, if he fails to do so, he could find himself in the AHL or in the press box, tasked with the role as the seventh defenseman.
