The Utah Mammoth continued their preseason last night against the Anaheim Ducks in game three of seven.
Unfortunately, the Mammoth are still searching for their first win. After dropping this one to the Ducks, they fell to 0-3. While preseason games don’t technically matter, stretches like this can still affect confidence heading into the season.
There weren’t many bright spots. Dylan Guenther scored the only goal for the club, but beyond that, not much happened.
Head coach André Tourigny shared his thoughts afterward:
“I think on (structure) we started really strong, we had a good moment in the o-zone, there’s a few things we did right,” Tourigny said postgame. “But it’s tough to really accomplish what we want to accomplish in our structure if you’re not more energetic in your battles. The back-to-back probably hurt us a little bit.”
There’s also been a trend through the first three preseason games for the Mammoth. A lot of physicality, which has led to fights. Last night, there were three: Montana Onyebuchi vs. Judd Caulfield, Curtis Douglas vs. Noah Warren, and Ben McCartney vs. Tyson Hinds. Add in the two from the first two games, and that makes five fights in three games, actually over just two nights.
We’ll see if that trend continues. It’ll be interesting to see if it carries into the regular season or if it’s just players fighting for roster spots (no pun intended).
