According to NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman, the Utah Mammoth have been shopping Matias Maccelli.
The 24-year-old Finnish native has been part of the organization for four seasons and has put up respectable numbers. In 224 games, he’s scored 37 goals and added 93 assists for 130 points.
He’s proven to be a reliable depth forward—someone another team might take a chance on in hopes of unlocking more upside. His passing ability has stood out, especially in back-to-back seasons with 38 assists in 2022-23 and 40 in 2023-24. He also chipped in 11 and 17 goals in those years.
With limited playing time this past season, Maccelli’s trade value has likely dipped compared to where it was. That said, Utah could still get a mid-round draft pick in return and either use it at the draft or flip it in another deal.
At this point, the writing appears to be on the wall for Maccelli’s time with the Mammoth. A fresh start seems likely—and with that, another team will get a chance to see if he can carve out a more permanent role in the NHL.
